I started The Art of Making Blog in May 2016. There is an old saying that “every quilt tells a story,” and I believe this applies to more than just quilts. Everything we make tells a story, if not more than one. My blog is a place for me to tell the stories that go along with my personal creations, which usually involve fabric or yarn.
Some projects can be considered successes in that they become what I originally envisioned, while others are best described as learning experiences. I think it is important to show all sides of the creative process because in art, as in life, we build on the entirety of our experiences.
I enjoy the challenge of creating projects that become engaging posts, finding fruitful avenues for promotion, and tracking the visitor metrics. From July through December 2018, my blog averaged more than 400 monthly visitors, with a bounce rate below 85 percent. As compared to 2017, direct sessions doubled and organic search sessions tripled in 2018.
